We tried Rosetta Stone last year and my daughter wasn’t that thrilled with it- I think the ideal way to learn is immersion- going to another country or living with family and being “forced” to learn.
I lived in Mexico for 3 months in small town where no one spoke English and I learned QUICK.
In my teens we lived in Quebec for a year and I was at French immersion camp and also picked it pretty quickly. Learning ions school system not an efficient way to lean. i don;t know how effective learning a language online would be either buy it s a good start to seeing how other languages work or if there is an interest in pursuing learning another language. A good friend of mine has her daughter in chinese lessons and she adores the language.
I took latin for 4 years and think this is a great base to learn most languages or at the very least how language works. It also appealed to the mathematical side to me. Its too bad they don’t teach it anymore or offer it. thought it really complimented a lot of subjects and to this day I an very good at any word games like Boggle or Scrabble.
